Living Sofa
Self-Assembly Upholstery Design
The Living Sofa is an ‘instant’ product, with unique advantages over more traditionally designed upholstered furniture products. Firstly it’s designed for self-assembly, so can be taken home from the retailer in the boot of a car.
Secondly it is a multi-functional product. As well as the traditional two-seater format, the sofa has the potential to adapt to other living situations. It can provide two temporary beds or offer a completely different living environment. This concept allows the user to interact freely with simple structural components through a simple plug-in interface.
The Living Sofa was initially designed for the Christie-Tyler/Nottingham Trent University Design Project 2002 was awarded 1st prize by CT, the UK´s largest manufacturer of upholstered furniture at the time. The prize included a year long professional placement with the company, where the design was developed and prototyped. The Living Sofa was displayed in the Christie-Tyler Café at the NEC for the National Furniture Show 2003.
